Project Templates

Repeating the same project setup over and over is busywork no one asked for. Project Templates in ROLL allow you to save a project structure and reuse it for future work. This helps reduce setup time, maintain consistency across projects, and ensure nothing gets missed.

FAQs

What is a Project Template?

A Project Template is a saved project structure you can reuse when creating new projects. It helps you avoid setting things up from scratch every time and keeps your workflows consistent.

What gets saved in a Project Template?

A template can include the following; project info, tasks, progress payments, costs, custom fields and notes. When you create a new project from a template, these elements are copied across so you can get started faster. Templates exclude time, purchase orders and bills on the cost tab, scheduling, and invoices.

Can I edit a Project Template after it’s created?

Yes. You can update your templates at any time from the Templates tab under the Projects dashboard.

Do changes to a template update projects already created from it?

No. Once a project is created from a template, it becomes its own standalone project. Any changes to the template won’t retroactively update existing projects

Who can create and manage Project Templates?

Access to project templates depends on your user permissions. Currently, only Admins have access to create, edit, and manage project templates. Any user who can currently create projects will also have access create a new project using an existing project template, but they won't be able to create new ones.

Can I customise a project after creating it from a template?

Absolutely. Templates give you a starting point, not a restriction. You can adjust and add further details once the project is created.

When should I use a Project Template?

Project Templates work best for repeatable work such as standard service offerings, onboarding projects, recurring jobs, or any project that follows a similar structure each time.

How do Project Templates save time?

By removing repetitive setup tasks. Instead of rebuilding the same project structure every time, you can create it once and reuse it, helping projects get underway faster and reducing the chance of missing steps.

Can I have multiple Project Templates?

Yes. You can create as many templates as you need to suit different services, project types, or workflows.

Are Project Templates required to use projects in ROLL?

No. Templates are completely optional. You can still create projects from scratch if that better suits your workflow.
